Dear Kindergarten Families,
Summer IS coming (we hope.)   At least by the activities we’ve had at school and by activities that we soon will have – summer is coming.   Big thank-yous to those of you who were able to help at the Sanislo Jog-A-Thon.  That cloudy day was just about right for all that running.  The children seemed to be having a great time and enjoyed a popcicle afterwards as a thank-you from your P.T.A..  About $5,000 was raised from this event.    Our Kindergarten classes also had a lovely time at the Seward Park Audubon Society’s Talking Tree field trip.   The weather was perfect, the talking tree fascinating and the real forest information/walk was suited perfectly for our students.  We even got to eat lunch outside in the sunshine!!  Last Friday, we were entertained by Raeya’s mom, Stephanie, who is a member of a Flamenco dance group.   We heard lovely singing and guitar music and experienced Flamenco dance.   Very exciting.
The new “lime” green Sanislo T-shirts have arrived.   They are for sale in the front hallway on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m..  The cost is $10.00.
The Kindergarten classes will be going to The Center for Wooden Boats on Wednesday, June 9 (Mrs. Goethe) and Thursday, June 10 (Mrs. Parker.) Please fill out your child’s permission slip and return it with $7.00 as soon as possible.  We need to order school lunches and make certain that we have enough chaperones for this trip to Lake Union.  The students will make a small wooden boat and have a ride in a native Alaskan umiak.  There will be life preservers for everyone!!!  We like to have plenty of parent help on this trip because we are on the water.  Some parents will need to meet us there.   We probably will eat our lunches there also.

This week’s homework is the last for this year.   We suggest that all students continue writing (using “best guess spelling”)  throughout the summer, as well as, reading everyday.  Keep practicing addition, subtraction and answering/drawing number stories, too.

We are just finishing our Wood science unit.  Last week the children made plywood, particle board and this week they will stain a small piece of wood.
All these artifacts will be coming home soon.  The students will also be bringing home a portfolio of their Weekend Writing in the next few days.  We hope you enjoy looking at it.   Have your student read to you what they wrote about their weekends.

This year has zipped by for us.   The children have made a lot of progress in all subject areas.   First Grade is just around the corner.   Enjoy a happy and safe summer break.   See you in the Fall.
